Most has software requirements, usually Microsoft Office.
iWork is good and cheaper than Office, but it may be different enough to give problems in classwork.

A backup hard drive is also a very good thing to have. You never know when a file or whole drive will crash.

I'd like to get her something practical for the Mac, like a security system or external HD.
Any ideas?
