By that, I mean ones where you can connect to your Mac (USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi) and update calendars, phone lists, addresses, etc. I'm one of those cheap people who have not made the jump to pay the carrier for all kinds of data transmission.

Hello everyone. I am happy to say I have purchased the first new Mac of my entire Mac user experience, a Mac Mini, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.53 GHz. It replaces (supplements) my old AGP G4. After a few years of wanting (but not needing) to upgrade, I finally took the plunge. The old G4 would not run the more recent Adobe Graphics programs sufficiently.
I also purchased a MacStack external HD case from Other Worlds Computing. It not only serves as a case but also a USB, FW400 hub. I had to return the first one because the fan quit working after two weeks but another is on its way.
My girlfriend couldn't believe that such a small Mac would replace the much larger G4 but it does, and with finesse! Paring it up with a 25" flatscreen HP monitor is just fantastic.

David Damico

Getting iWork working

Well, I'm having all sorts of fun installing upgrades, after I went ahead and replaced my old backup G4 tower, which I had over the years dragged all the way up to Tiger but which was puffing and panting pretty hard and not really keeping up, with a nice new Mac Mini. The headlines read "Lose 37 pounds in one easy step!".

What had been installed on the G4 was an old copy of the original-issue iWork05, and it _sorta_ worked in that environment. But not after transferring all my data and apps over to to the new Mini, which is running Snow Leopard — messages like "This operating system does not support that version of iWork", and like that.

Fortunately I had a spare copy of iWork'08 on hand, left over from when I upgraded my other computer (now a nice MacBook Pro) last year and installed iWork '09 there. So I went ahead and yanked out old version of iWork from the Mini and carefully installed the iWork'08 Suite — Pages, Numbers and Keynote. However, not all is sweetness and light, and while each of these programs will boot in the new environment, none of them will run.

Pages, for example, will start up and open any template and even show the inspector, but will only display text in white-on-white and will not allow the text color or the background color to be changed. Pretty much the same with Numbers, while I cannot get Keynote to even budge past the starting line.

The first question here, obviously, is whether the iWork'08 package is _supposed_ to run under Snow Leopard (10.6). If so (and it really seems it oughta), then the question becomes why my installation is behaving so badly, and what I ought to do about it. Does this ring any bells with anyone?

     /RWWT

Apple iPhone4G' sales will top 24 million?

Now Apple iPhone 4G' sales has broken nealy 2 million pieces in the first three days. Based on this data, some reports predicted that Apple iPhone 4G will reach the sales of 24 million.

Apple's contract manufacturer, Taiwan-based Foxconn annouced it will ship 4.5 million iPhone 4G by the end of June, and 19.5 million by the end of 2010. That means, the total is 23.5 million.

But I still doubt the target!

Although Apple is a wizard company and sold a lot of phones, but 24 million is a big number even for them. For comparison, Apple has sold a little over 50 million total since the original iPhone's debut in 2007. So how to explain the supposed sudden surge in iPhone supply? Digitimes could be wrong of course, though it does have some good sources in the contract manufacturing world.

Other possible explanations could be that Apple is planning big price cuts on this model, which could move more units. Or, and this would jibe with reports that the company's building a CDMA phone, it could be planning to add more carrier partners. More outlets to sell the phone would mean more supply.

Digitimes, an IT trade publication, had some other details too: The next iPhone will have an ARM Cortex A8 processor and 512MB of memory, which is double what's currently available on the iPhone 3GS.

The next iPhone will have an in-plane switching (IPS) panel like the iPad, according to Digitimes, and a 960x640 resolution. There will also be new technology that allows a wider viewing angle and better viewing in sunlight, according to the report. Apparently, Apple wants to improve the iPhone's utility as an e-reader and will be promoting iBooks on the iPhone. The panel is also reportedly 33 percent thinner to make more room for a larger battery.

The new iPhone is expected to be introduced June 7 at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. What is believed to be a prototype version of the device made headlines when it was found in a bar and sold to Gizmodo for $5,000 last month before Apple asked for it back.

Anyway, whether the target will be reached, we will open our eyes to wait.

______________________
Wholesale Digital Camcorders | Wholesale MP4 Players | China Wholesale Electronics
