Topic: Gift for college kid

My friend's daughter (in No Cal) starts college in August and Mom used her education discount to buy the kid a MacBook, which came with an iTouch. I'd like to get her something practical for the Mac, like a security system or external HD.
Any ideas?

We like to recommend a cable lock to lock the computer down to a table or desk.  We've heard lots of stories about kids that "just stepped out for a minute" and find their laptop gone.  They run between $30-$50.

A backup hard drive is also a very good thing to have. You never know when a file or whole drive will crash.

What about the iWork suite?

Depends on the college. Most has software requirements, usually Microsoft Office.
iWork is good and cheaper than Office, but it may be different enough to give problems in classwork.
