Topic: Mac friendly Cell Phones

I thought of posting this in the Q&A area, but then thought it might fit better here.

I know the iPhone is the phone to have if you own a Mac. However, I'm not anxious to switch to the AT&T network. I am suggesting a topic for one of our meetings that reviews the cell phones that are out there that are Mac-friendly. By that, I mean ones where you can connect to your Mac (USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi) and update calendars, phone lists, addresses, etc. I'm one of those cheap people who have not made the jump to pay the carrier for all kinds of data transmission. To a certain extent, I'm using my phone as a combination phone and Palm Pilot.

I welcome this as a topic for one of our meetings if you think it has a broad enough reach/interest.

Thanks

Re: Mac friendly Cell Phones

Most of them can connect to a Mac, it depends on the OS they are running.

Some of them need Missing Sync from Mark/Space.

BlackBerry comes with a free DesktopManager.  Use to need PocketMac.

Both PocketMac and MissingSync have versions for PalmOS, WindowsMobile, Sybian, Blackberry and others.
Browsing their web sites will give you a list of supported phones.

Re: Mac friendly Cell Phones

Apple's iPhone is probably the best bet when it comes to syncing with your calendar and address book. But not everyone has AT&T as a cell provider, and the iPhone isn't right for everyone, Sony Ericsson is probably one of the most Mac-compatible cell phone manufactures out there.

Re: Mac friendly Cell Phones

Thanks for the suggestions. I have an LG non-smart phone, which so far means I can't get there from here. The only path I've found to smart phones includes a high monthly fee, which I'm not ready to sign up for. My goal has been to have the capability of an old Palm Pilot (full addresses, phone numbers, and calendar all sync'd to my computer) built into my phone. Those exist, but not on the phones that Verizon is willing to link to their basic service. It's not worth the extra $1/day ($30/mo.) to go to the smart phone.

My search for a solution continues, but for now I still sync to my Outlook calendar in my PC.

Thanks

Re: Mac friendly Cell Phones

Even some of the simpler phone that at least have BlueTooth can connect to a Mac with BlueTooth and transfer files.
