Topic: Curious Quicktime behavior

I am trying to watch the two links that Apple offers about the iPad.

The "watch the video" link plays just fine in Quicktime.

For the Steve Jobs clip I get video but no sound!

I've restarted, re-booted, dumped the Safari cache, etc. to no avail.

Am I alone in this oddity?

Any ideas why one works and the other not?

I'm using an intel iMac with 10.4.11. Everything else is up to the latest software updates.

Best,

What version of Safari and Quicktime?
Any 3rd part extensions?
Try a safe boot.

The keyboard video is available for download through the Apple Keynotes podcast.

Re: Curious Quicktime behavior

Thanks for the ideas.

Everything else seems to be working fine, so for the moment this is more of an academic exercise. I've poked around to find QT files on the internet and they all seem to work. Perhaps Jobs is actually an MP4 file or something? I thought QT handled those. Beats me.

I've purposely avoided 3rd party extensions for Safari. If I have some, I'm not sure what they would be. My "Internet Plugins" folder in the Library is empty.

I've got Safari 4.0.4 and QT 7.6.4. I just ran  the Apple software update and it says I'm OK. I had Disk Utility verify teh disk. (OK).

I'm currently connecting to the internet through an Airport Express which is in turn connected to my DSL modem. If I do a safe boot I can't connect to the Airport, so I'll try running a wire to the modem directly and see what happens.

Like I said, I think this is more of a curiosity than anything at the moment.

Best,

Ken
