Topic: Snow Leopard - File Sharing Issue - Partial Resolution
Since going to Snow Leopard on my 24"iMac (clean install, currently 10.6.2), I have been unable to see any of the PCs on my network and have had multiple, daily application freezes, pinwheels and other assorted problems.
After any hours of on-line research, troubleshooting and calling Apple support to no avail, I finally found that the problem is related to file sharing in a blog at iLounge.

Following Solution 2 in the blog which involves turning file sharing off and removing shared folders, my Mac is running better than it ever has since I got it. Applications pop open, no more pinwheels - but no more sharing. Posters to the blog report that the problems recur as soon as they try to share a folder on their Macs.
This is very disappointing performance from Apple, particularly since file sharing worked quite well with 10.5 and I was able to see all the PCs on my network and share files anywhere on the network.
Hopefully, Apple is working on a fix. People who do not use file sharing should not see these problems.
Happy Holidays, Joel
