How to disable the Java web plug-in in Safari

Due to the numerous recent exploits found in Java, it is recommended to disable Java, unless you are sure you need it.  Java is used for remote access programs like LogMeIn and GoToMyPC.  It is also used for OpenOffice and it’s cousins.
