MacBook Neo Hands-On: Apple’s $599 MacBook Is Real

March 4, 2026

Filed under: General — Steve Rea @ 2:09 pm

Apple just introduced the brand new MacBook Neo, a $599 Mac that could become one of the most popular laptops Apple has ever released. I’m in New York City at Apple’s Apple Experience event where I got hands-on time with the MacBook Neo along with the other products announced this week.

The MacBook Neo features a completely new design with color options like silver, blush, citrus, and indigo along with a color-matched keyboard. It also becomes the first Mac powered by an iPhone chip, using the A18 Pro from the iPhone 16 Pro lineup.

For $599 you get a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, 500 nits of brightness, Apple Intelligence support, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. Apple claims it is up to 50% faster than the bestselling PC with Intel Core Ultra 5 and up to 3x faster for AI workloads.

The MacBook Neo also offers up to 16 hours of battery life, USB-C connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6, and a lightweight design that makes it perfect for students and first-time Mac users.

In this video I also briefly recap the rest of Apple’s announcements including the Studio Display XDR with ProMotion, refreshed MacBook Air and iPad Air models, M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros, and updates to the iPhone 17e.

Preorders for the MacBook Neo are available now and it launches March 11.

How to Turn Liquid Glass into a Solid Interface – TidBITS

November 19, 2025

Filed under: General — Steve Rea @ 7:45 pm

Apple’s new Liquid Glass interface design brings transparency and blur effects to all Apple operating systems, but many users find it distracting or difficult to read. Here’s how to control its effects and make your interface more usable. Although the relevant Accessibility settings are quite similar across macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS, I separate them because they offer different levels of utility in each. I have no experience with (or interest in) a Vision Pro, so I can’t comment on Liquid Glass in visionOS.

WWDC 2025 Recap: All of Apple’s New Features in 10 Minutes – MacRumors

June 10, 2025

Filed under: General — Steve Rea @ 6:32 pm

WWDC 2025 Keynote has just ended and Apple just announced all of its new features and changes across its platforms.

The biggest news, however, is Apple’s new design language for its platforms and that’s Apple’s Liquid Glass design. Liquid Glass is what Apple is calling the new look that’s coming to all of its updates, and wow, does it look different. So Liquid Glass is translucent, and designed to refract and reflect the light from its surroundings.

On the iPhone, the Home Screen, Lock Screen, controls, navigation, app icons, and widgets have been overhauled. You can even choose a whole new glass-like look for your app icons, and the Lock Screen has an adaptable font for the time that stretches or shrinks to fit your wallpaper. Speaking of wallpaper, your photos now have a 3D effect that moves when you move your iPhone.
